The third Thursday of
each month is Boy Scout Advancement Night. We conduct
Eagle project reviews from 7 PM until 7:30 PM. No
appointment is necessary. Scouts should wear their Class
A uniforms. Eagle Boards of Review begin at 7:30 PM and
are only by appointment.
Please note that the location of our meeting has
changed. We no longer meet at Troop 61’s Scout Lodge. We
now meet at Hollydale United Methodist Church. Please
visit
http://www.hollydaleumc.org/Pages/Directions.htm
for directions.
Life Scouts pursuing the Eagle rank should have a copy
of the Atlanta Area Council Life to Eagle Guidebook
(2005). You can pick them up in the Program Center at
the Council office. You can also get it online here at
the district website under the “Eagle Resources”
section. That book is a fantastic resource. If a Life
Scout wants to become an Eagle then being prepared means
reading and following the advice of the guidebook.
If the Life Scout can put a checkmark in every box on
page 28 of the guidebook then he is ready to present his
project to the District Advancement Committee. When he
presents it to us we will go right down that list to
determine if we can approve it. Unfortunately, we do
decline projects. The primary reasons for declining come
right off that list.
The main reasons for declining a project are:
1) Lack of detail (too general, not specific)
2) Youth and adult hours are not estimated
3) Funding plan is not included or is too vague
4) Only one signed original (the Scout needs to bring
two signed originals)
The District Advancement Committee has the awesome
privilege of seeing your finished product…an Eagle
Scout.
