Covered
Bridge District Advancement Committee meets are
now held on
the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Troop 61 Scout Hut
(same location as District Roundtable), Bethany United
Methodist
Church,
760 Hurt Road SE,
Smyrna, GA. The
committee will meet briefly before, between and, as
needed, after any Eagle Project Reviews and Eagle Board
of Reviews.
Eagle
Project Reviews -
Projects will be
reviewed between
7:00 PM & 7:30 PM and do not require an
appointment.
Potential
projects are to be presented for approval
in Class A uniform. The
scout or unit MUST supply a copy of the COMPLETED Eagle
Scout Project Workbook with ALL required
signatures of approval. This copy will be kept by
the District Advancement Committee for our
records.
There may be special
consideration to review a potential Eagle project on a
night other than the scheduled District Advancement
night. These considerations include, but are
not limited to:
- Eagle
Scout candidate is approaching his 18th birthday and
project must start before the next project review
date in order for completion to occur before birthday.
This should obviously be a last resort and should be
avoided if at all possible.
- The
organization that will benefit from the project has a
deadline that must be kept in order for funding or
other resources to apply. This should only apply
if the project opportunity was brought to the
candidate on short notice.
- Organizations
that will be donating resources (money, materials,
etc.) have a deadline or donations budget. And
the impact of losing these resources would
significantly affect the project.
Each
case will be reviewed to determine the urgency of the
approval. If the success of the project and
overall completion of the Eagle Scout requirements is
not at risk and does not warrant a special meeting,
none will be given. The project can be submitted
for approval at the next scheduled District Advancement
meeting night.
Eagle
Board of Review -
Eagle Board of Reviews begin at 7:30 PM
Any
Eagle Scout candidate wishing to have an Eagle Scout
Board of Review MUST make an appointment! You
cannot just show up and expect to have a board of
review. In order to make an appointment for an
Eagle Board of Review please notify me either by
telephone or email at least one (1) week prior to the
scheduled date they wish to attend. I will then
verify that I have received a copy of the candidate's
approved and verified Eagle Scout application and
project write-up from council.
Once a
final Eagle Board of Review has
been scheduled, it is then the Eagle Scout
candidate's and/or unit's responsibility to make sure
that the members of his board are selected,
notified and are present for the Board of Review.
The
Board of Review for an Eagle candidate is composed of at
least three (3) but not more than six (6) members.
These members do not have to be registered in Scouting,
but they must have an understanding of the importance
and purpose of the Eagle Board of Review. One member
serves as Chairman. The Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters,
relatives or guardians may not serve as members of a
Scout's Board of Review. The Scoutmaster can be invited,
at the request of the Eagle Scout candidate, to
remain as an observer and may be called upon to clarify
a point in question but cannot participate in any part
of the proceedings unless called upon to do so by the
board chairman. At least one District advancement
representative must be a member of the Eagle Board of
Review. In no case should a relative or guardian of
the candidate attend the review, either as a participant
or observer. The contents of the Board of Review are
confidential and the proceedings are not to be disclosed
to any person who is not a member of the Board of
Review.
The
original copy of the Eagle Scout application and project
write-up that were returned to the candidate and/or
unit must be brought to the Board of Review (and any
copies that are made for the other members of the board
or as backup) for final signatures if the candidate
is approved, as well as the letters of
recommendation from the 5 references that are listed on
the Eagle Scout application. The letters of
recommendation MUST be from the same references
that the Eagle Scout candidate has listed on the Eagle
Scout application. The letters should be addressed
and sent to the Troop Committee Chairperson or Troop
Advancement Chairperson and NOT to the Eagle Scout
candidate or his parents and should NOT be opened prior
to the Eagle Scout Board
of Review.
Any
questions, concerns or clarifications regarding the Eagle
Board of Review process should be addressed before the
actual night of the Board of Review.
